WHAT IS JUVÉDERM ULTRA XC?

As a variation of Juvéderm^®, one of the most popular and most highly effective injectable dermal fillers around today, Juvéderm^®Ultra XC was FDA-approved in 2010, and is primarily used to treat facial wrinkles and has been proven to be quite effect when patients are looking to increase the volume and overall fullness of their lips.

With each and every injection, a gel-like substance is released, composed mainly of water, hyaluronic acid (HA) and lidocaine – a local anesthetic that helps to reduce any pain the patient might be in. in addition, hyaluronic acid helps to plump up the lips by increasing localized volume by pulling in water molecules from beneath. Juvéderm^® Ultra XC contains hyaluronic acid gel, a naturally occurring sugar found in the skin to fill depressions, and act as a cushioning agent. It works by absorbing water and nutrients to the skin. When injected into the skin Juvéderm^® XC acts as a sponge-like gel, expanding to fill in folds and wrinkles and combat facial volume loss. The XC formulation also contains lidocaine to ease any discomfort associated with the shot.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Juvéderm^® Ultra XC is one of the most powerful in the Juvéderm^® family of fillers. Its relatively thick texture makes it perfect for correction of the most severe fine lines and wrinkles.Juvéderm^® Ultra XC contains HA and water. When HA is combined with water, it turns into a gel-like material that creates volume. As this combination is injected into your skin, it helps volumize the tissues. Any wrinkles are “filled in,” leaving a smoother appearance.

The “XC” in the product name indicates the inclusion of 0.3 percent lidocaine. This is designed to prevent pain from the injections. It can also save time because you won’t need a separate topical pain reliever prior to the procedure. SIDE EFFECTS OR RISKS?
As with most injectable dermal fillers, the side effects and risks are relatively slim as the procedure is considered to be relatively non-invasive, no matter where you might have your injection performed. While the procedure itself isn’t painful at all, some patients might feel a slight pinch within a day or two of the injections. Some of the other common side effects include:

• Redness

• Swelling

• Tenderness

• Firmness

• Lumps

• Skin discoloration

• Bruising
